AUGUST 2008 NEWSLETTER

Dear Friends,

It's hard to believe that we're already in our last month of summer 2008. I hope you all have had a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather and relax with your family and friends.

This summer, I have seen less and less boaters on our lakes. Gas prices have reached an all time high and are serious affecting daily life in the 29th. In order to continue enjoying the summer activities we love, like boating, family vacations, and weekend get-a-ways, we must reduce our dependence on foreign oil and find alternative energy sources to reduce gas prices while still protecting our environment. Last week, I joined my Republican colleagues in introducing an all-of-the-above energy plan called the American Energy Act. This energy legislation is a comprehensive energy bill that includes improving conservation and efficiency, drilling in America, increasing the supply of American-made energy, bringing online additional refineries, and developing all viable alternative or renewable fuel sources and technologies.

Also, I hope you will take a moment to look over the "Fix Washington" project. Hundreds of legislative ideas were submitted by my constituents and the final five have officially been selected. Now it is up to you to log onto my website before September 12th, 2008 and vote for your favorite idea. The idea that receives the most votes will be introduced on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. I am thrilled to see my constituents getting directly involved in the legislative process. Although the idea submission deadline for "Fix Washington" has passed, you are always welcome to call any of my offices and tell me your ideas on how to make this country a better place to live. Click here to vote for one of the five ideas.

Thank you and if there is anything I can be helpful with -- whether it's dealing with an agency of the federal government, answering questions about federal aid and programs, or even providing a tour of the U.S. Capitol next time you're in Washington -- please don't hesitate to call on me through any one of my offices.

Sincerely,

Randy
